Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island called West Island. People unfamiliar with the term tend to think there is a separate island in the west of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is frequently referred to as her birthplace. However, she only was there for a brief duration. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa. She initially wanted to be an actor, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends weren't able to dance with her. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. Once I surpassed the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted to acting. Her high school teacher school was the one who pushed her in the right direction. A teacher suggested that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. She was able to audition and be cast as Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she's been in over 60 productions including big screen productions as well as smaller screens. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
